C13 When you Believe
Who knows what you can achieve?
When I started out on the Master Key Experience last September I knew in my heart that it was going to have a profound effect. I did not know what to expect from the course, or what I would be doing. I just knew I had reached a point where I wanted something different, something more than I had previously accepted as my lot in life. How often do we settle for second best because we think it is the safer option? How many times do opportunities arise to consider a different path? I have come to understand that opportunities present themselves all the time, but we just do not see them because we are not looking. (look closely at the image, let your eyes blur slightly. What do you see?)
Wherever you go….. whether standing in a queue at the check out, waiting for the bus, a party, or in a meeting…where ever there is a gathering of more than one or two people, if you listen you will hear people complain about something. The weather is too cold, too hot, too rainy, to windy! The cost of fuel, food, holidays is too expensive! The neighbours are driving you nuts, your car broke down again, you have so much to do and no time to do it, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!! When you focus on the negative, then that is what your eyes become accustomed to seeing, and so you attract more and more of it to see.
But why do we focus so easily on the negative? Why do we find it so hard to stay positive? I think there are a number of reasons… one being the inordinate amount of negativity that comes at us day after day through the media… but also because we are naturally creatures of habit. We get drawn into a certain frame of mind because we do not consciously make a decision not to be, and then it spirals as we repeat the same things every day. Did you know that 90% of the thousands of thoughts you have every day are the same as the thoughts you had yesterday! It is not until something major happens in your life to pull you up short, or someone points out the blindly obvious that we even realise what we are doing, saying or thinking.
Training yourself to see only the positive can be hard at first. It can even feel a little alien to many of us as our thinking habits are challenged. No one likes to feel challenged over things they do not believe they are doing wrong. Yet until we do something constructive to alter our belief system nothing will change. After all, a belief is just a thought that we keep telling ourselves, and so it becomes true for us. If I believe I am rubbish at something, then there is more than a strong chance that I will not be very good at what ever it is.
This way of thinking is something that used to plague me. Even though I knew I can do things well, the little voice in my head whispered negative things so many times that I became reluctant to try new things, just in case. This way of thinking creates neural pathways and peptides in the brain that we become addicted to, and without even being aware of it we subconsciously attract things to us that confirm our belief system and feed those peptides. Look hard…..do you see the person inside…..the person you were born to be, or do you see an illusion of yourself created by others? (stare at the 3 dots in the middle for 30 seconds, close your eyes and keep looking)
Taking the time to invest in your own well being and really challenge yourself takes courage and determination. What I have come to understand is that I can change my life. I can be who ever and what ever I choose to be. And as I appreciate the positive things around me every day, see the good in people, circumstances and things then what I attract is more things to be appreciative of, more people to help me on my journey and new circumstances open up that lead to places I could not previously see. When you believe…… you can achieve! It up to you to decide if you believe in the negative or the positive! And when you change your thinking, you can change your life.
