C18 Wait a froggin’ moment!!!!!
When was the last time you took a bath?
So many thoughts, so little time. As I contemplated this weeks blog topic I started thinking about life and frogs…….as you do!!! 🙂
How many times have you filled your bath with water, poured some drops of soothing bath oil or bubble bath under the taps, and maybe even put a few scented candles around the bathroom, put a good book on the side ready to just relax and unwind for an hour. Hmmm, it smells delicious and the bubbles are so inviting! You strip off your dressing gown and plunge your foot through the bubbles and ….OOOOUUUUCCCCHHHH !!!!!! The water’s too HOT!!!! ……. All thoughts of relaxation disappear in a moment as you withdraw your scorched toes and grab for the cold tap, and begin swirling the cool water around with your hand until it feels safe to venture back in.
I’ve done that so many times!! Anyway, this reminded me of the anecdotal story ‘How to Boil a Frog!’. If you put a live frog into a pot of boiling water it will jump out, but if you put it in a pot of cold water and heat gently the frog will not notice the change in temperature and it will die. Whether this is actually true with respect to cooking frogs I don’t know, but it is a good metaphor about the dangers of not being aware of what is going on around you, so you can make the right decisions before it is too late.
There are moments in life when things present themselves at a time just when you really need them. You get a sort of quickening in your heart and you know you have to do something. But how should you respond? A bit like the ‘fight or flight’ feeling you experience before getting on a roller coaster, some people run for the hills, while others jump up and down with excitement and can’t wait to get started! Why do people react in such different ways to the exact same situation? It is due to conditioning. Babies only fear two things, sudden loud noises and being dropped. Everything else you believe, regardless of whether it is true or false, is due to experiences you have along your life’s journey. Being aware of what is going on around you helps you to make decisions, course correct when necessary and generally steer yourself in the direction of your desired destination. But unless you have a clear plan of your destination, and understand why you make the decisions you do, the chances of making accurate decisions becomes more difficult, and you may even find your life careering out of control.
